My 19-month-old hates bedtime. If left alone for two minutes in the cot, he vomits. He gets so upset he shakes and is all sweaty. We went away two weeks ago and he slept with me and now here I am. Being firm doesn't seem to help.

I have a 13-month-old who will be 20 months when our new baby should arrive. I am wondering about how to get him into his new room and new bed. I do feel that this should be done before the baby arrives since it will be such a change. Do you recommend the use of toddler beds or a regular bed pushed up against a wall and a bed rail for safety, or just a regular mattress on the floor until he is older? added to check if it adds to live server database -- by ekta

I have a 23-month-old son who hates bedtime. He was a breast baby until he was 1 and that was the only way he went to sleep. Now we have an 8-week-old son and we cannot get the older child to bed. He goes to our bed, where he has always slept, without any problem; he just won't go to sleep. It usually takes an hour for him to fall asleep. He will not nap during the day unless he falls asleep in the car seat and when you move him out, he wakes up. I am due to return to work in four weeks and need to know how to solve our bedtime problem. The newborn also sleeps with us, and is a breast baby also.

What can I do to delay my son's waking up to a more reasonable hour?I have a 16-month-old son who is an early bird. He wakes up at 4:30 a.m. It doesn't seem to matter whether he goes to sleep at 7:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m.; he always wakes up with the sun. He has dark curtains in his room and I've tried to leave him to go back to sleep, but he just carries on crying until I go to him. By 8:00 a.m. he will be so grouchy and tired that he falls asleep before breakfast. He is a healthy, breastfed boy who sleeps through the night. He has a feed before bedtime and then again when he wakes up. We usually try to give him some toys to play with, but in the end he just gets cross with us for not getting out of bed and playing with him. What can we do to make him wake up at a more reasonable hour?

I have a 16-month-old daughter and she really likes to sleep. She will go to bed at 8 p.m. and not get up until 8:30 or 9 a.m. And then she will lie down again around 11 or 11:30 a.m. and sleep for a couple more hours. Is it all right to let her sleep that long?

I have a 2-year-old who sleeps in a toddler bed for his naps but won't go near it for bedtime; he wants to sleep in the cot. Should I just put the cot away or wait until he wants to sleep in the bed at night?

I have a 2-year-old son who refuses to stay in his bed or in his room at nap/bedtime. He will not sleep more than four to five hours at night, and maybe an hour or so during the day (if I'm lucky). I am concerned that he is not resting enough and this could affect his health. Our GP suggested and prescribed an antihistamine. It didn't help much. He also said maybe we should lock his door from the outside to keep him in his room, since he wanders through the house when he gets up at night. I think that is a bit drastic, but tonight we are trying it. HELP!

My 27-month-old child still insists on sleeping in his playpen. He will not sleep in the normal bed we've bought for him. And most of the time I find him asleep on the floor in front of his bedroom door. Is this a normal problem with children when it's time to switch to a larger bed or should I be concerned?

My son is 15 months old. Ever since he was 5 months old he has used my hair to make him fall asleep. Is there any way I can break the habit, so he can fall asleep on his own? I've even cut my hair, to help him try a different approach. No luck though.

My extremely active 20-month-old daughter is beginning to climb out of her cot. I'm concerned about her safety when she's able to climb out and wander around while we sleep. Should I go ahead and buy her a bed or wait until she really learns to climb out? How can I keep her from climbing over bed rails on a big bed?

Our 21-month-old daughter naps every day for one to three hours in the early afternoon. Night-time is a very different story. Every one to two hours she wakes up crying, continues for a few seconds and then falls back to sleep. Recently we gave her Triaminic for a cold and she slept through the night, three days in a row! When we stopped giving her Triaminic, the crying started again. What happened? And will she ever sleep through the night?
